  • The changing of Bronck’s to Bronx is fairly common in the US. As mentioned, Socks was shortened to Sox for the White Sox and the Red Sox. Also, in Kentucky, Dick’s River was renamed Dix River. I’m sure there’s other examples out there, even if it’s not well explained.

  • But why is it called “THE Bronx,” rather than “Bronx?”
