{"id":772,"date":"2010-07-09T06:19:16","date_gmt":"2010-07-09T13:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/?p=772"},"modified":"2017-11-09T23:04:13","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T07:04:13","slug":"sugar-does-not-make-kids-hyper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/index.php\/2010\/07\/sugar-does-not-make-kids-hyper\/","title":{"rendered":"Sugar Does Not Make Kids Hyper"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pf-content\"><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/sugar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16688\" title=\"sugar\" src=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/sugar-340x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><a href='http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com' title='Interesting Facts'>Today I found out<\/a> that sugar does not make kids hyper.\u00a0 In fact, it has been proven in numerous studies that it doesn&#8217;t affect their behavior at all.<\/p>\n<p>In one such study, it was found that mothers who think their kids have been given sugar (even though their kids haven&#8217;t been given any), will almost always say their kids are acting hyper.\u00a0 On the flip-side, if they think their kids haven&#8217;t been given sugar (even if they have in actuality), they will almost always say their kids are acting normal; even though in both cases there is no actual discernible difference of behavior being observed between the two.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost all in the parent&#8217;s head. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Almost&#8221;, you say?\u00a0 Interestingly, if the child believes they have been given sugar and they believe that sugar will make them hyper, some children will act more hyper.\u00a0 But this again is all in their head.\u00a0 If they believe they haven&#8217;t been given sugar, even though they&#8217;ve been given loads, these kids will report no change in how they feel and will act normal.\u00a0 If they are given no sugar, but they think they&#8217;ve been given lots of sugar, they will often report feeling a &#8220;sugar rush&#8221; and act hyper.\u00a0 This is more or less just the mysterious placebo effect in action on a small percentage of these kids.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-right\"><!-- wp_ad_camp_1 --><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Sugar.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-776\" title=\"Sugar\" src=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Sugar.png\" alt=\"Sugar\" width=\"389\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Sugar.png 389w, http:\/\/www.todayifoundout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Sugar-340x261.png 340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a>On the other hand, caffeine will absolutely make a good percentage of kids hyper.\u00a0 So while many parents attribute the hyperactivity in kids that often follows drinking a lot of soda as being caused by sugar, it is actually generally the caffeine doing the work.<\/p>\n<p>In the end though, excessive amounts of processed sugars is bad for kids (and adults too!), in a variety of ways;
